Hillbillies, Bradys, and Captain Kangaroo, oh My!

So I was sitting her doing my research for tonight’s post and I’m separating them in categories. One of my categories was shows that were made into movies. This list kept growing and I had to cross off The Dating Game because I didn’t put it far enough down the page! I’m sure I missed some too because most of these movies were pretty bad anyways. I’ll get to those in just a minute, but there were also some really good shows to come out of the 60s so here’s a few of the ones I know were popular.

American Bandstand
Laugh In
The Benny Hill Show
The Carol Burnett Show
The Dean Martin Show
The Dick Van Dyke Show (which introduced Mary Tyler Moore)

There were sitcoms:
The Andy Griffith Show
Hawaii Five 0
I Dream of Jeannie (I’d still do Barbara Eden I don’t care if she’s in her 70s)
The Munsters
Mr. Ed
The Jetson
Car 54, Where are You?

let’s not forget:
Batman (remember the movie with shark repellent spray!? great shit)
Doctor Who (freaked me out as a kid)
The Monkeys (hey hey we’re the Monkeys and people say we monkey around, but we’re too busy singing to let anybody down.)

And we ALL loved Mr. Rogers and all his fun little friends and the Trolley…that one puppet with the red nose and looked like a witch…yeah, I never liked her much.

So the rest of these series were made into movies made in the past 15 years or so and I’ll start with the ones that I thought were decent movies:

Mission Impossible. Not a big Tom Cruise fan but I like the action espionage shit and they delivered what I wanted.

Maverick. Mel Gibson, James Garner, and Jodie Foster were great in this movie and it didn’t hurt to have the original Maverick in the movie.

One the fence about these ones:
The Saint…I didn’t even know it was a tv show until tonight so I have to process this…I liked Val Kilmer in this movie and Elizabeth Shue is one of my favorites from her Karate Kid days.

The Mod Squad. I know I saw it but I can’t remember it which means it may have sucked.

Never Saw:
The Avengers (not the Marvel super hero team getting their own movie in 2012)
Get Smart

Here comes the shit that Hollywood puked up and some that shouldn’t even have been made into movies!

Addams Family…they made two of these and I’m sure some of you will disagree with me but I don’t care.

Bewitched…was this when Nicole Kidman started to suck or is it just the influence of the Scientologists?

Beverly Hillbillies…the only thing good about this movie was former Playboy Playmate and Baywatch Babe Erika Eleniak played Ellie Mae.

The Brady Bunch…loved the show and can watch the movies but probably because of the suckage factor.

The Flintstones…Halle Berry was in this in a loin cloth. Sounds better in my dream.

Flipper…Crocodile Dundee was in this movie. I honestly didn’t see it but I don’t think anyone will argue this one.

Lost in Space…Joey Tribiani in space with the little chick from Party of Five.

McHale’s Navy…actually starred Tom Arnold that’s probably why you never heard of it.

Wild, Wild West…Kevin Kline and Will Smith opened this movie Fourth of July weekend and it SUCKED! One of Will Smith’s only true bombs!

Movie that hasn’t come out yet but will probably suck:
The Green Hornet…Seth Rogan as the Green Hornet…yeah, I’m not going to see it either.

The final series is Star Trek. The show actually didn’t last long but was made into successful movies so I figured I’d mention this one too.
